About The Chessie System Model Railroad - Northern Division
This railroad will be based on the Thomas Sub Divison from Elkins WV to Bayard WV. Along this stretch of the line there was plenty of coal trains hauled since the Mount Savage Power plant spur was just off of the Bayard Yard. The layout is currently being drawn up on paper and will be avaliable for you all to see here sometime soon. There will be a mix a engines on this railroad as I have a few here on the website that did not survive into this era. But hey this is my railroad, what if the Shark Nose etc would have survived that long. Would they be in the classic Chessie Paint Scheme? Who Knows. This railroad earned the name Northern Division because it is in the northern part of the United States. Yes I know that it is more south on the line but this is my model railroad. Anyways back to the model railroad. There will also be a connection coming off of Bayard that will go to the Mount Savage Power plant at Mt Storm. The line will include, Elkins, Kerens, Parsons, Hendricks, Thomas, Henry, Bayard, & Mt Storm. Later on there might be an extension to Kitzmiller and all the way to Cumberland. The Thomas Sub saw mostly coal trains coming from Cumberland & Elkins on their way to Bayard for delivery to the Mt Savage Power Plant at Mt Storm. Please stay tuned as this railroad is on it's way from a dream to a layout. This railroad has been in the making for the past 8 years but I could never settle on what division I wanted to model until I started looking deep into the WM Thomas Subdivision. This is when I found that coal traffic was being hauled over the line and I knew this was the line that I wanted to model. The Thomas Subdivision is slowly coming to life as I sit here and plan it out. The rugged mountain terrain should offer some great challenges but at the same time some great photo's.
